Live Music Office, in partnership with QMusic and Cairns Regional Council through Flame.Arts, will bring their industry expertise to Cairns for a weekend of professional development, collaboration and live music as part of the Cairns Music Industry Gathering.
This free event, held at Tanks Arts Centre from Friday 8 November to Sunday 10 November 2024, aims to foster growth and collaboration by bringing together industry professionals, artists, venue operators and key stakeholders for an invaluable opportunity to network, engage and learn.
Program highlights include the Live Music Office Industry Forum, focused on developing a Live Music Framework for Cairns under the Live and Local program, with the opportunity for the local music community to directly have their say on the future of live music in the region.
The local music industry and creatives will also benefit from professional development sessions led by QMusic alongside industry partners. Additionally, roundtable discussions will be held for live music venues with the Live Music Office.
Attendees can also enjoy multiple networking opportunities and live music events throughout the weekend. Now in its second year, the event is expected to attract over 150 industry stakeholders from across Far North Queensland over the three days.
Cairns Mayor Amy Eden said the recent findings from the 2024 Our Cairns Survey demonstrated the popularity of live music within the community.
“I’m a huge live music fan and I know how popular and important live music is to our community.
“The 2024 Our Cairns survey findings showed us that live music events are the most popular in the local arts and culture scene, with 45% of respondents indicating that music festivals are their favourite events.”
She said these findings reinforced the “significant role that live music plays in bringing our community together and showcasing the incredible talent we have here”.
“This industry gathering is a fantastic opportunity for local artists, industry professionals and music enthusiasts to connect, collaborate and celebrate the power of live music.
“It will also enhance our rich cultural landscape and drive economic growth and tourism in our city.”
Lucy Joseph, Project Manager for the Live Music Office, also highlighted the importance of events like this in strengthening Cairns’ live music scene.
She described the forum as a valuable opportunity for the community to shape the future of live music, encouraging anyone with an interest, from musicians to venue operators, bookers and managers, to attend.
“Connecting with each other is fundamental to the growth of live music in any community, and these kinds of events not only allow local stakeholders to meet and collaborate with each other, but also to advocate directly to council on the issues that matter most to them. “
