The Tanks Local music program presents 3 great acts this Friday night 6th of May. Be there so you can say you saw them before they were big!
BOBBY MAGUIRE
From playing snowy shows in the French Alps to opening for The Cat Empire along tropical shores, Cairns singer-songwriter Bobby Maguire shares his clever brand of rock, evocative of fellow Australian artists Grinspoon, Thirsty Merc and Bernard Fanning.
As a teenager, chest surgeries at the Royal Children’s Hospital put a stop to Maguire’s motorbike passion, giving him a chance to pick up the guitar. Soon, he was performing to crowds of thousands at festivals with a music video featured twice on Channel Ten by age sixteen. Bobby Maguire then completed a Bachelor Degree of Music in Melbourne before returning home to the Far North to record his single ‘Breathe’ while also composing and performing music for a sold-out theatre production.
Despite releasing his 2019 album just weeks before the Covid-19 pandemic Bobby Maguire has continued to take to the stage both as a soloist and with his dynamic band of Cairns rockers. Maguire has also managed to produce new music and videos including his 2020 single ‘Exoskeleton’, 2021 release ‘Vigilante’, and his latest 2022 single ‘Taken My Place’.
THE SUNSHINE PROJECT
Formed in September 2020, in beautiful Cairns, North Qld. The Sunshine Project’s songwriting process as a band is an adventure, with contrasting ideas, personalities, and different communication methods. It feels like magic when it all comes together.
With a sound based loosely around indie rock, with elements of gentle folk, smooth funk, and energetic pop/rock with huge guitar riffs and powerful vocal segments, The Sunshine Project are excited to play gigs and festivals over the 2022 year!
ELLA HARTWIG
Ella Hartwig is a budding singer/songwriter from Cooktown, who has recently planned her debut East Coast Queensland tour.
Ella plays originals with an indie/folk style who is leaning more into country. Her songs come from the heart, and are stories about her moving away from her home town up to the Torres Strait, and then travels down to Brisbane.
