Rock The Yacht – Live Loud & Local.

2014 is shaping up to be a bumper year for the Douglas region, and our local musos are gearing up to do their bit to bring the community together for some super, happy fun times at the Yachty. The Port Douglas Yacht Club is proud to be hosting the second installment of the ‘Rock the Yacht’ series for 2014, Saturday the 16th August from 3pm til late.

Following on from the success of Sunset in the Park a couple of years back, and last years inaugural ‘Rock the Yacht’, Club manager Richard Stapleton says he relishes in hosting these family friendly events at Port’s most iconic venue.

“Everyone loves the Yachty for its relaxed, old school vibe, stunning views & most importantly, its feeling of community. We love the fact that Mums and Dads can bring the kids along, kick back with a few bevies, and soak up some fantastic live music. It’s great to see the kids hanging out and dancing with their little buddies, and their infectious smiles really encapsulate the community vibe and energy of our town.”

For such a small region, Douglas certainly has an amazing contingent of great musicians, and they themselves highly regard the importance of these music showcase gigs at the Yachty. With just the right mix of covers and original tunes, music lovers are again in for a treat.

On the bill this time round are Cairns local legends, Roz Papparlardo, the Montgomery Brothers and ska punk rockers, Jobstopper.

A few of our local acts are taking on the big band challenge this time round too, including Timber & Wood joining forces with The Kroovs to bring you The Waywoods. The Distractions duo will become an amped up 6 piece flying under the banner of The Destructions. Two of the Destructions musos (from a well known St Kilda band) will be flying up especially for this gig. Tee Ketu will be funking up the yachty with the lovely Mereana Pohatu & also ready to work their crowd pleasing magic for RTY are Good Counsel, Clarketown, The Kroovs and more.

Radio Port Douglas is proud to be co-hosting the event and organiser Kim Hurley is looking forward to seeing everyone come together this Saturday, having a beer or 3, enjoying the sweet tunes & catching up with mates.

“These days are always so well supported by our community, and I think everyone genuinely appreciates the opportunity to get together & relish in our good fortune of living in such a spectacular part of the world. We’d love it if all our accommodation, boat and hospitality crews helped us to spread the word about Rock the Yacht on the 16th August to our visitors and tourists, so they also get the opportunity to mix it with our fabulous locals & to hear some kick butt music!“
