The Blues comes to Resonate this Thursday night as the man with the big voice, GG Davies makes his Resonate debut. GG Davies was born in Sydney 1952 and did 20 years in the army, never firing a shot in anger. Bankruptcy and divorce forged his music and his move to FNQ at turn of the century, where he started writing his own blues – influenced by such greats as Cocker, Ritchie Havens and Tom Waits. The blues have now taken a firm grip on GG and he now blends original blues with Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and Elmore James. GG has had the privilege of playing such great festivals as Cairns Blues Festival 2010, Yungaburra 2012 and 2013, Tanks Theatre 2013 and Wallaby Creek and Black Mountain 2014
Eddie Skiba is also making his Resonate debut this Thursday. Eddie Skiba is a singer/songwriter creating his own fresh brand of alternative rock. He has earned himself a stellar reputation as a songwriter and live performer playing with his talented five piece band infusing natural convivial chemistry with fine musicianship. Skiba is currently putting the final touches on his new CD ‘Blend on the Border’ due for release in June, which promises to raise the bar on his first solo album, the highly acclaimed ‘Bullet De Bloom.
Skiba has performed regularly in The Far North, Victoria, and also ventured overseas for shows. Highlights to date include supports for Hoodoo Gurus, Diesel, Ian Moss, The Break, Colin Hay, Mark Seymour, Nick Barker, Dragon, and Chocolate Starfish, tours to Ireland and Austria, Cairns Blues Festival, Mission Evolve Festival, Cairns NYE concert, Tanks Arts Centre, V8 Supercars Concert, Tablelands Festival, Rail Jam Concert Mt Buller, Gershwin Room at the Espy, Cairns Festival, and Carnival on Collins Festival.
Bosko & Honey blew the roof off Resonate last time they played, and we are ecstatic to have them back. If you missed them last time, don’t make the same mistake again! Fusing ukulele, theatre and great songwriting, you really need to see these guys live to appreciate their awesomeness. Don’t be fooled by Bosko and Honey’s cute and quirky appearance… this all-original, virtuosic and genre-defying duo has travelled the globe and is something to behold – Bosko & Honey will warm your heart, make you laugh, and shock you to the core. Charming and disarming, Bosko & Honey’s “Ukulele Love-In Show” is a unique experience in the truest sense. Part fiery cabaret, part fire-side chat, their act is an intimate yet wildly entertaining experience – an engaging blend of virtuosic musicianship, family-friendly yet subversive humour and sometimes the (very) unexpected!
If you are heading in to Resonate early (and why wouldn’t you?), why not grab a bite to eat at the Grand’s kitchen? $12.90 Rib Eye Fillet, Calamari, or Chicken Parm, all with salad and chips, it’s a hard deal to beat!
