Another fine night of original music awaits discerning music lovers this week (28th of Jan) at Resonate.
Playing the 7.00 slot this week is Handles. Handles are an acoustic, folk pop duo made up of Cairns locals Luke Hanlon and Andrew Martin. The group’s original material incorporates the earthy tones of the trumpet with the subtle sounds of flugelhorn, alongside a driving rhythm enhanced with hand percussion. The band recently returned from a year in Mount Gambier, South Australia where they studied Jazz at James Morrison’s Academy of Music while also playing an extensive run of shows around the Mount to great response. The duo have returned to Cairns for a collection of gigs over the summer and recently recorded a performance for Balcony TV.

Not letting up for a second with the great acts this week, Savidas will be bringing the funk to the Resonate stage from 8.20pm. From their warm down to earth vibe you wouldn’t expect that the duo Savidas had done shows that include a Royal Command performance for The Lord Mayor of Melbourne and have played at most of the biggest festivals in Australia. Consisting of band members Gumpy on Vocals, Guitar & Breaks and Uma Vernau aka Umalicious on Vocals & Percussion, the duo have been likened to the sounds of John Butler, Ben Harper and Micheal Franti. Their music having been described in a live review by Beat magazine as: “Audio glue. Being able to mix a handful of Genre’s and bring together the crowd till they’re all singing the final chorus of a song they had never heard before. Magic!”
Playing the 9.30 slot this week is Ray Danes, who tells us he will be moving to Melbourne in March to further his career, so catch him while you can! Ray seems to get better each time he plays Resonate, great songs, and awesome musicianship.
Resonate is staged every Thursday night at the Grand Hotel in Cairns. Kitchen opens at 6.00, Resonate blasts off at 7.00pm entry is free!
