King Pig East Coast Tour

King Pig are touring the North coast of Queensland in April and playing a variety of different venues from Mackay to Cairns. They are supported by Ray Danes and Mark Myers (The Starry Field (acoustic)), with Greta Stanley at certain shows.

King Pig are a 6 piece folk/blues/rock outfit originating from Cairns. They have a unique blend of old and new that defies categorisation. Their EP ‘King Pig’ is winning hearts across the nation. The result of a musical love affair between Dal Smart and Tim Wright they are going from strength to strength and 2015 is definitely the “Year of the Pig”. They are recording a full length album in late 2015.

I spoke to Tim Wright from King Pig at a gig a few weeks ago and he seemed particularly hyped about the Choral Society Hall gig at the end of the tour, I asked Tim to explain.. “The gig at the Choral society is the only Cairns gig where we have our own set. We are supporting Augie March but we may have to do it as a 3 piece and we only have 30 mins. We get a massive stage and a great back drop to play against. The choral society have been notoriously averse to letting bands play at the hall and I am excited to bring a potential mid sized venue into the fold. It will be a seated gig with a bar and food by The Flying Monkey Cafe. This will be the full experience and I will be going all out to make it spectacular.”

The Augie March gig seems a bit of a coup for King Pig, Tim elaborated “We are supporting Augie March at the Tanks Arts Centre on the 1st of May. Augie are one of my favourite Australian bands and I have been a fan since Sunset Studies. I saw them in the early 2000’s at the Great Northern in Byron Bay and I can’t wait to share a stage with them!”

I asked Tim what we can expect from the upcoming King Pig album and he revealed “When we recorded the EP we didn’t really have any plan for anything further. It was recorded back to front as in I did all the guitars and vocals and then we put the other instruments in. This time around the songs will have been road tested and workshopped and we will do the drums and bass first and build from there. I am hoping to get some more complicated arrangements in and a bit more space to the songs. The style and sound wont differ to much but there will be a lot more “intent” behind the recording.”
