Resonate looks to be a cracker this Thursday night with Drewboy bringing his full band “Drewboy And The Sax Addicts” to the Resonate stage, sandwiched between two more top original acts.
Eli Birchall will be kicking the night off at 7.00. It’s been a while since Eli has played Resonate as he has been busy settling in his role as new dad, but he escapes the bottles and nappies for a few hours this week to bring you a set of his awesome originals. Make sure you get in early to catch Eli, he has only played Resonate a few times but always performs an engaging set.
Playing the 8.20 Slot is Drewboy and The Sax Addicts. Drewboy has been away for several weeks having a minor medical procedure, but don’t worry ladies, they didn’t touch his face:- not the outside of it anyway! Drew started playing as a solo act which grew to a duo with Matty, then Gus on percussion/drums, then Tanya on bass. I was wondering where we were going to fit the string section on the Grand stage but it seems the lineup has thankfully settled as a 4 piece now. The band have a bunch of new songs they will be recording for their debut E.P in April. Drew teased that they will be unveiling one of their new songs on Thursday night. When asked about the new song he coyly replied “It’s a Secret, we have a lot of choices but it depends which ones work out best at our rehearsal tomorrow”.
Playing the 9.30 Slot is Ray Danes in what may well be his last NQ Show for a while. Most people will know that Ray has been signed to Mushroom Music Publishing, who have been pressuring him to move to Melbourne. Ray is scheduled to make the big move within a few weeks. Last time I spoke to Ray there was some trepidation about moving away from regular gigs, and friends and family. It is quite possible to live in NQ these days as your base and fly down for bigger interstate shows, especially if you have a label pulling strings for you. Greta Stanley recently made the move down south, only time will tell if we lose another one of our regular local performers.
Resonate is staged every Thursday night at the Grand Hotel in Cairns. Kitchen opens at 6.00, Resonate blasts off at 7.00pm entry is free!
