Hot 8 Brass Band Return

It’s been two years since Hot 8 performed their swaggering raucous brand of jazz funk to a lively sold out Cairns crowd.

Turns out they missed us as much as we missed them and this time they’re bringing the whole entourage… Get ready to party Louisiana style when they play the Tanks Arts Centre on Saturday the 2nd of March 2019!

Emerging from the New Orleans parade culture over 20 years ago, Hot 8 takes a relentless approach to rhythm and brass.

Ingenious arrangements and an utterly infectious groove splicing traditional jazz, soul and hip hop with creative original songs this is the real Louisiana deal.

The players in Hot 8 grew up together and maintain strong, family-like bonds.
Their funk style is a blend of influences with elements of contemporary R&B, rap and a Deep South variation, ‘bounce’.

The band has released two of their own records and featured in two of Spike Lee’s documentaries, bringing them national and international exposure helping to fuel a steady touring schedule.

The story of the Hot 8 Brass Band has been one of tragedy and triumph.
Over the years the Hot 8’s ranks have been decimated by the deaths of four original members due to street violence, illness and the life-altering turning point; Hurricane Katrina.

After being evacuated, displaced, and scattered across the country, the band regrouped and began touring the United States, opening for popular R&B artist Lauren Hill among others.
