Currently on their biggest national tour to date, Melbourne indie soul outfit Saskwatch are set for a massive weekend of shows in North Queensland including their first ever gig in Cairns at The Jack on Friday 18th March. With a quick follow up from their 2014 LP ‘Nose Dive’, the now refined six piece have delivered a new evolved sound with their latest release ‘Sorry I Let It Come Between Us’ and have embarked on a massive national tour touching every corner of the continent.
After receiving plenty of airplay for the horn heavy first single ‘I’ll Be Fine’, Saskwatch have released a special psychedelic live video of fan favourite album track ‘Spitting Image’. Chatting to Saskwatch multi-instrumentalist Liam McGorry he explained:
“We just wanted to do something different, we’ve never really done a live recording or live video so we literally just wanted to do something different. I think also with that particular song it also lands itself more to the live version.”
“Our friend Ben Jones who directed the clip experimented with different sorts of projections. He filmed us when we were playing in the sound check and projected it back onto ourselves which was pretty bizarre when we played, but it turned out really well in the end.”

Adding more dates to an already huge national tour, Saskwatch will venture to Cairns for the first time playing at The Jack on Fri 18th March. The group then travel north to Townsville for Street Party on Sat 19th March and Magnums in Airlie Beach on Sun 20th March.
“It one thing to play in your own city; but to work on an album and actually head out on the road and play in front of different groups of people is a privilege and a great experience.”
Recording their third studio LP ‘Sorry I Let It Come Between Us’ in The States, the band’s new sound has evolved greatly with a heavier groove and stronger melodies, all while still staying true to their trademark horns and soaring vocals by lead singer Nkechi Anele. Overall it’s a very well balanced listen start to finish with great hooks and musicianship from this exciting young group.
“When we recorded the album we went over to work with Scott McMicken and Nathan Sabatino from one of our favourite bands Dr Dog. They’ve got a studio in an old factory on the outskirts of Philadelphia; it was the middle of winter and obviously really cold. It snowed a few days while we were there. It was a really amazing experience. We pretty much barely left the warehouse and got it done in a few weeks.”
“The sound has pretty much changed. Mainly the dynamic of the album itself, our first couple of albums the sound was very up and lively, where I think this one is more balanced.”
Coming off an impressive 2015 performing at Groovin The Moo and supporting Triple J Hottest 100 number 1’s The Rubens, Liam was grateful of the support given by one of the nation’s biggest radio stations.
“They’ve been very supportive of us since our very first album. They’ve been great with our tours and getting us on to Like A Version, we’ve been very grateful of all the support they’ve given us. They are very influential and it defiantly does make a difference”.
“I haven’t been to Cairns since I was very young, so the Cairns show is one I’m very much looking forward to. We’ve heard The Jack is a great place so we’re looking forward to getting up there”.
