Resonate kicks off at the Grand again this Thursday night the 11th of Feb with 1 newcomer to Resonate and 2 crowd favourites.
Kanishk will be playing the 7.00pm slot this week. Kanishk is a solo acoustic singer/songwriter who began performing live last year in Cairns. Drawing influences from artists such as Ben Howard and Matt Corby, Kanishk combines mellow vocal tones and intricate finger-picking techniques to create a unique folk sound. He has just recorded his debut EP ‘In The Water’ with producer Mark Myers (The Middle East, Emma Louise, Passenger) and will be releasing it later this year.
Playing the 8.20 slot is Katie Jay. Whether it’s performing solo, with her band the Code or as one half of the duo “The McCormacks” most Cairns Folk would be familiar with Katie’s awesome vocal abilities. Katie has just released her new track “Carried Away” and will no doubt be playing it on Thursday night.
GG Davies will be playing the 9.30 slot this week. GG Davies was born in Sydney 1952 and did 20 years in the army, never firing a shot in anger. Bankruptcy and divorce forged his music and his move to FNQ at the turn of the century, where he started writing his own blues – influenced by such greats as Cocker, Ritchie Havens and Tom Waits. The blues have now taken a firm grip on GG and he now blends original blues with Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and Elmore James. GG recently released his new E.P “Soul Shine”. Check out Mitch Sullivan’s interview with GG.
