The music and culture melting pot Mixed Grill returns with more organic F’NQ cheese than the Tableland dairy’s.
The show features a star studded line-up of music, media and performance artists including Bosko & Honey, The Don Johnson/Butlers, DJ Whichway, Font versus Hanzard, DJ Honey, Terra Mystic, Blu Lustre and No_Request.
Taking inspiration from commercial radio, tacky tourist souvenirs, bogan TV shows and high camp club pizzazz, this months Mixed Grill celebrates post-pop/trash culture with Hits & Memories: covers, remixes, re-interpretations, pop-inspirations, mash-ups.
Ukulele duo Bosko & Honey are one of the Nation’s foremost ukulele acts, and while they hide in the rainforest of Kuranda, they are famous across the globe for their “Ukulele Safari” YouTube videos. Recently returned from the Blue Mountains and Melbourne Ukulele Festival’s they are currently recording their second CD.
The Don Johnson/Butlers are the world’s first declared bogan funk band, drawing from the cannon of 70’s and 80’s funk and smashing it into classic bogan rock. Lead singer Wrong Scott remarks “We draw inspiration from the fact that John Butler is the Don Johnson of Aussie roots music”.
“We could be huge, or shit, or somewhere in between”.
There’s a carnivale of support acts including DJ Whichway, fresh from supports for Opiou and sets at Wide Open Spaces festival, DJ Honey (Japan) who will throw hardcore metal and disco into the same mix, and No_Request, out from the cave with a live AV set.
Indigenous band Terra Mystic, led by Victor Steffensen, will be showcasing a set of classic Aboriginal roots and rock songs, while absurd performance artist Font will go head-to-head with wack alien-clown Hanzard in what will be a memorable ‘versus’ battle.
Fresh graffiti crew The Last Page will paint a live post-pop piece during the night, while rainforest image scientist Blu Lustre will provide classic, remixed pop images and projections.
