Johnny Blunt – Killer Queen

Killer Queen returns to Vertigo Cocktail Bar & Lounge on Friday 27th November for one huge night to rock you (pun intended) with their dynamic and extremely authentic live show once described by founding Queen guitarist Brian May as ‘astonishing’.

Considered one of the world’s leading Queen tribute bands, Killer Queen scored rave reviews from Danni Minogue and Red Symonds after an appearance on Australia’s Got Talent and front man Johnny Blunt was voted best Freddie facsimile by seven million viewers on a French TV look-a-like show.

The incredible combination of looks and talent found in Killer Queen means that the band maintains a solid and gruelling touring schedule, both around Australia and overseas. Recently touring through Asia headlining major international festivals, including Singapore’s Beerfest Asia, Norway’s Skanevik Blues Festival and a run of shows in the sub continent of India . Front man Johnny Blunt described India as being a surreal experience and that after the show “we literally had a photo taken with every single person in the crowd. We were there for hours; they had to get the police to escort us out!”

Queen’s trademark ‘big’ sound is reproduced note-perfectly without recourse to backing tapes and there repertoire covers the full extent of Queen’s amazing run, from early numbers such as ‘Seven Seas of Rhye’ and ‘Brighton Rock’, right through to their globe-conquering anthems such as ‘We Are The Champions’, ‘Radio Gaga’, and ‘Another One Bites The Dust’. Mid-period masterpieces such as ‘Tie Your Mother Down’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ are also included and Johnny added “We can always count on plenty of Wayne’s World impersonators in that one (Bohemian Rhapsody). It’s always guaranteed”

It’s no accident that all band members bear uncanny resemblances to their original equivalents with all dedicated to researching the objects of their admiration. On-stage movements, hairstyles, costumes, lighting effects – all are specially created to mirror the life and times of Freddie Mercury and his band. It’s been reported that over $100,000 has been spent to make every last detail perfect.

“It’s a lot of money in deed but when you think about guitars, instruments, lighting and props, it’s very easy to rack up. We just want everything to be as perfect and authentic. For example Freddy went through a stage where he uses to wear boxing boots on stage. I was like I have to have these! So then I had to go track them down and get the exact ones. And believe me, those things aren’t cheap! (laughter)”

With all the money invested the results are an incredible show that transports audiences back into the magic moments of perhaps the greatest rock band the world has ever known. After watching footage of the band and seeing the amazing level of dedication it truly is something that has to be seen to be believed.

“We’re all completely fascinated with the band and perfecting our show, right down to every last detail. We’re not just any tribute act; we’re always researching and committed to being the best we can be.”

“We’ve played many times in Cairns over the years and will always love playing at Vertigo. The crowd is always ready to party and we always have a great show, we’re really looking forward to coming back up North”

Killer Queen perform at Verigo Cocktail Bar & Lounge – Reef Hotel Casino on Friday 27th November from 9pm. The show is free and the party continues late with ‘The Wait’.
